Vance Vacates Cannabis Cases

Reuters reported today that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance has dropped more than 3,000 open cannabis cases dating back to 1978.

The cases dealt with issues as serious as smoking marijuana.

Dear Readers, can you imagine that Manhattan had an open pot-smoking case that was 40 years old? Big Apple taxpayers must be scratching their posh heads...

In describing the move, Vance said "the the action would serve justice and address racial disparities in the prosecution of marijuana offenses."

Outstanding warrants for 3,042 naughty pot-smokers and pot-holders (heh heh) were vacated in the action.

These cases were for minor infractions and misdemeanors, and did not include distribution-level crimes.
